A desire to recover is the only requisite to join.

Inspired by the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, the fellowship of Pagan Sanctum Recovery embraces pagan beliefs, vocabulary, and ideologies in a program of dual recovery. As in most 12-step programs, there are no dues or fees. Each PSR group supports itself through its own contributions.

If you walk a pagan path and have a substance abuse problem and/or have been diagnosed with a psychiatric or mood disorder, PSR provides a supportive group environment where you can freely discuss your faith without "watching your pronouns," or otherwise let something slip to a group that may or may not accept you unconditionally. If you're not certain you have an addiction problem PSR can help you decide.

We offer a recovery alternative for today's growing membership of Goddess religions and other pre-Christian faiths, including Wicca, Witchcraft, Asatru, Odinism, Shamanism, Pantheism, Druidism, Native American paths, and many others. Buddhists and Hindus in recovery may also find something to relate to, as some of our spiritual concepts derive from these eastern religions.

Newcomers, the questioning, and the curious are all welcome to explore this alternative spirituality with us.

We help all who come to us in need, and humbly offer secular support to others in recovery, regardless of religion, spirituality, 12-step program affiliation, political party, or planet of origin. PSR is not meant to replace other 12 Step programs, but to serve as a spiritual supplement for those needing to share their recovery-through-faith with others from similar backgrounds. Through meditation, magick and ritual, we discover our individual paths to recovery, and guide others to theirs.

"While the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous inspired the steps and traditions of Pagan Sanctum Recovery, they are not an adaptation. Rather, they were created specifically for this group, and should not be construed otherwise. A.A. is a program concerned only with recovery from alcoholism, and is not in any way affiliated with this group."

-Darlene G. Smith, Permissions Assistant, A.A. World Services Inc.

One of Many . . .

Please note that Pagan Sanctum Recovery is not the only Pagan oriented recovery program to be found. Below we list others. The diversity of nature reflected in our ever-growing, ever-changing Pagan Recovery community, which has adapted the steps to fit most spiritual traditions. More will certainly follow. We encourage the Pagan who is still suffering to explore the varied world of Pagan recovery, and listen for the message that is right for you.

Our collective experience has shown that working a program without the benefit of a sponsor (and others to guide you) will probably not yield good results. Online contact goes a long way, but most of us haves found that face-to-face "fellowshipping" with our brothers and sisters is part of the Mystery, and joy, of recovery.
